		<description>by KnibbelerWetzer.
"We live in a time in which a new understanding of nature is essential: a personal and empathic relationship with nature. Nature is not only a system, that exists outside of us, but it’s also deeply connected with our imaginations and desires. This has to be visualized and made recognizable. The video-work Untitled (Tattoo) does exactly that. There is the image, which resembles a static photo. One can wonder about the slender back with the mighty tree upon it. A miraculous and impressive image, which is actually sublime; the tree takes over the back as growing nature. It becomes the back, the backbone, the support. The tree spreads out its branches like the nerve system in the brain, and its roots like feet. Various anthropologists and psychologists have compared the stance of man to an essential rise from the earth to the sky.
Then, the tree appears to breathe; through the skin that lives, the heart that beats. It’s not a photograph, but a video: alive. That quality mirrors the living quality of a tree. Man and tree are breathing. What is slender, is also strong, and the tree gains a beauty through the slender, the vulnerable. As in all nature, contrasts are being abolished."

<description>It's alive! Sjoerd and I traced the famous chestnut tree which Anne Frank described in her diary. After it fell on August 23rd, neighbours took souvenirs, collectors germinated chestnuts and the rotten wood was used to warm the city of Lelystad. Grafts and seedlings are spread around schools, gardens and parks across the world. One seedling will be planted on the White House grounds in 2012, after it has finished it's 3 year quarantine.Published in NRC Weekblad, 21st October 2010.

		<guid isPermaLink="false">2432973</guid>

<description>Dutch society has distanced itself increasingly from faith since the early ‘60 of the last century. Consequently, a large number of church buildings have become obsolete and dilapidated. Eventually the choice has to be made for every church: demolish or reuse. The decision falls frequently to demolishing – about 7000 of the one-time 12.000 Dutch churches are still standing. The existence is threatened of a third to a about half of these. Yet the awareness in our collective consciousness is growing that a church is much more than a place to celebrate faith. But when the choice has been made to allow a church a new function, what, then, could be considered worthy reuse?

In Zijn Huis (In His House) appeared as a self published photo book in 2008, 40 pages, full colour, edition of 500. Scroll down for an impression.

Essays: Antoine Bodar, Eric Luijten &#38; Door Jelsma
Design: Petra Warrink
ISBN: 978-90-902323-0-0

"Reuse of church buildings is a fascinating issue because it sets on edge the relation between architecture and giving meaning. As the building answers more the archetype of a tall, symmetrical, sandstone colossus with heavy wooden doors, leaded windows and a high bell tower, the restraint to give it another function is greater and the alienation that is felt in case of an actual transformation is more intense. For heaven’s sake, what should a supermarket do with a bell tower? Why is this exhibition taking place in a space that is far too large? We cannot attune the images. The primary religious association does not give a lot of margin. Classical churches clearly support our need for a measure of continuity. They provide spatial, physical and spiritual reminders in an urban environment that constantly shifts and transforms."

		<description>by KnibbelerWetzer.
Despite all our desires for untamed wilderness, culture and nature are intrinsically connected. As an intervention in nature, bonsai is very artificial, but within it lies a deep knowledge of, and longing for nature. It is an understanding in which large manifests its self in small and vice versa. Precisely in this intervention - the knowing of nature from within - the essence of the culture/nature relationship is being sought within our culture.
For our series Typology we travel all over the world to submerge us into the extraordinary world of the bonsai. What at first glance looks like a hobby, in which the animation of the bonsaïst is translated into a small dish with a horticulture of modest format, is turned into a layered project. In this series bonsai is approached as a current experience of natures being, which is less solitary than expected.
This is a growing body of work
